Although Interfusion Fitness was founded in 2016, the seed was planted long before.  The seed was a simple concept -assemble high-quality fitness instructors from a wide variety of fitness disciplines, and put them all under one roof.  We knew we couldn't be the only fitness enthusiasts who preferred variety in our fitness lives.  Sometimes we favored circuit training, sometimes yoga, sometimes a muscle-building weight-lifting class, sometimes a heart-pounding cardio dance class, or sometimes a technical dance class.  Other times we found ourselves in the mood for a chilled-out stretch class, or high-intensity interval training, or a barre class.  In other words, we love cross training…the original definition of cross training - training through a broad swath of fitness favorites.  However, the main obstacle to satisfying our craving for cross training was driving all over town to do so.  To eliminate that obstacle, we created Interfusion Fitness.

At Interfusion Fitness, variety is now found under one roof.  With three studios set within 4,200 square feet of space, and a highly-skilled, well-trained, friendly and enthusiastic staff of fitness professionals, variety is now as simple as walking out of one studio and into another, or even staying put in the same studio as the classes switch over.  

At Interfusion Fitness we bring the best to you:  sports-inspired fitness training designed and delivered to you by world-class, former professional athletes; movement classes by professional dancers and choreographers; a variety of yoga forms from top-notch practitioners; and other dedicated veterans of the fitness industry, as well as varying styles of personal training.  Besides creating and effective and enjoyable workouts, our main focus is on strength and overall health, with a heavy emphasis on proper form and technique.  Safety first.  We believe getting fit is a senseless process if you continue to get injured during the process. 

‘Fitness for All of You’ is not just our tagline, it’s our world.  It’s the way we want you to feel each time you walk through the doors - As IF Interfusion Fitness was created for you.  Because it was.  It was conceived and built as a fitness destination where people of all shapes, sizes, fitness levels, genders and backgrounds, can feel comfortable getting their fitness on.  It’s a judgment-free zone (yes, we even have No Negative Self-Talk ‘swear jars’) where strangers effortlessly become friends, as they connect over fitness and other similar interests.

It’s no secret we wanted Interfusion Fitness to be different.  When you first enter Interfusion Fitness, you will notice a difference.  A different feel.  A different vibe.  A different moxie.  You will immediately absorb the energy of the midnight purple floors, and realize you’re out of the box.  With its welcoming reception area, snacks, drinks, and free WiFi, Interfusion Fitness is more than just a great place to work out.  It’s a great place to hang out.

Meet the Owners

Desiree

Desirée Nathanson

MS, DTR, RYT-200, CO-FOUNDER

Athlete, model, dancer, fitness consultant, dance instructor, dietetic technician, nutrition coach and Fitness Universe competitor.  Desirée began her formal dance training at the age of four at Florida Ballet Arts in Sarasota and continued through her discovery of dance teams in high school.  From there, she became a Dazzler and went on to dance for the University of Florida Gators dance team where she performed all over the country, including the 2000 Men's Basketball Final Four.  Following her four years at UF, Desirée broke into the professional world of dance as an 'A-Town' dancer for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. Desirée currently serves as an official trainer for the Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders.

Desirée was privileged enough to perform at both the 2002 NBA All Star game and Celebrity All Star game.  She traveled internationally to represent the NBA in China, performing in the Guangzhou and Chengdu provinces, and has performed at games for the Reynosa Correcaminos, the Hawks' sister team in Reynosa, Mexico. Desirée has worked with several music artists including The Sugarhill Gang, MC Hammer, Kool and the Gang, "American Idol" finalist Ejay Day, Dryce, Cat Chang and Pilar Montenegro.

Desirée earned her Master of Science (M.S.) in Health Sciences with a specialization in Nutrition from Georgia State University and has since earned the title dietetic technician, registered (DTR).  She is a certified personal trainer, group exercise instructor, registered yoga teacher and certified posture specialist.

Through her nutrition education and dance/fitness background, Desirée hopes to educate people on the positive effects of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Meet the Instructors

Marci Letkoff

Dance Instructor

Marci Lefkoff is a native of Atlanta and began her dance training with Ruth Mitchell, Patrica Bromley and Gary Harrison.  She has had extensive training in ballet, jazz, Latin jazz, modern (Graham Technique) and lyrical/contemporary.  Marci received full summer scholarship to attend the Alvin Ailey American Dance intensive at the age of 16 and later went on to become the Assistant Choreographer/dancer for the Atlanta Hawks Dance Team.  Marci’s unique, energetic style of jazz, Latin Infusion Jazz and her emotional passionate style of contemporary have been taught around the Metro Atlanta Area in numerous studios to people of all ages and all levels.  She is a resident choreographer and dance teacher at the DeKalb School of Performing Arts as well as numerous metro high schools.  Marci has choreographed “Footloose” and “Hairspray” the musicals for Suwanee Performing Arts and was a selected choreographer for Dance Canvas’ 2010 Fall Performance Series as well as a faculty member for Dance Canvas’ DC Next Summer Intensive program.  In 2005 became a certified Personal Trainer through National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) a 6 month 500 hour course focusing Anatomy & Physiology, flexibility and stretch, strength training and more!  Marci enjoys sharing her knowledge of dance and fitness to the people whose paths cross hers and hopes to continue to grow and learn herself!

Katy Moomaw

Cardio barre Instructor

Katy has been teaching fitness classes for almost two years.  She currently teaches at the Cowart Family/ Ashford Dunwoody YMCA and The Fitness Center at Dunwoody Baptist Church and is excited to add Interfusion Fitness to the list!  Prior to teaching fitness, Katy was a member of the Atlanta dance community for many years mostly as a performer, but also as a teacher.  She has been a guest teacher and choreographer for Decatur City Dance.  She was a member of About Face Contemporary Dance Company from 2010 - 2014.  She has been a member of the faculty of Gotta Dance Atlanta and has performed in shows for them as well as Dance 101, working under choreographers Tim Meyers, Chuck Maldonado, David Norwood, and Bubba Carr.  She was a member of the 2002 - 2003 Atlanta Hawks Dance Team and was named Rookie of the Year for 2002 - 2003.  As a member of the Atlanta Hawks Dance Team, she performed at the 2003 NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta.  She currently lives in Dunwoody and is the mother of twin girls and her awesome dog Finnegan!

Melody Smith

Barre Fusion Instructor

Melody is an Atlanta native who has been a practicing ballerina for 25 years, and a teacher of ballet for the last 13 years. She has performed classical ballet roles such as Arabian in the Nutcracker, Coppelia in Coppelia, Cupid in Don Quixote, and Giselle in Giselle. Although classically trained, her passion is teaching beginners. She wants to be the reason you love ballet and get addicted to barre. Her teaching style is warm, positive and fun. Melody is also the founder of Ballet 24, an online all level ballet fitness program. Ballet 24 and her live classes facilitate Melody achieving her mission: Teaching ballet to anyone who wants to learn.

Kelsey Tucker

Yoga Instructor

Kelsey is an Atlanta based yoga teacher and Georgia Tech graduate (B.S. Psychology). For nearly twenty years, Kelsey was a classically trained ballet dancer until an injury ended her professional dance career. Having begun dance at the age of three, Kelsey’s relationship with movement has always been an integral part of her life and it is what ultimately led her to explore yoga. When Kelsey first began her practice, she was immediately drawn to the transformative powers of yoga. After a significant personal trauma, Kelsey was able to find stillness and acceptance through her personal practice. She began living with less resistance and learned how to appreciate the present moment. Kelsey enjoys sharing her love of yoga with others and holds a 200 hour level Yoga Alliance Certification (RYT-200) through Decatur Yoga and Pilates under the instruction of Joe Palese.

Kelsey’s classes focus on alignment, introspection, and healing. Kelsey creates a comforting and playful environment in each of her classes, where every student is free from both judgment and expectation. Every body is a yoga body and Kelsey aims to create fully accessible, all-inclusive yoga classes. From beginners to experienced yoga practitioners, Kelsey meets students where they are and helps them safely discover their body’s unique potential. She encourages her students to listen to their body’s emotional, physical, and spiritual needs as they explore and learn their edges. Kelsey loves to make people laugh and draws on this ability to create a lighthearted and supportive space for every student. Kelsey empowers every student to take their yoga practice deeper into their lives both on and off the mat. Her classes will leave you with an enormous smile and a greater sense of love and compassion for yourself and others.

Diane Nathanson

RYT-200, Yoga Teacher

Diane began practicing Yoga in 1999 while Hazzan/Minister as a way to enhance her spirituality and endurance for the long hours of chanting (singing) the many prayers of the Jewish service during High Holidays. 

She completed her first 200 hours of teacher training under the guidance of Regina DeWitt, E-RYT, RN, pranic healing practitioner and owner of Prana Yoga and Healing Center in Sarasota, Fl.  After completing her teacher training at Prana, Diane assisted and taught yoga and restorative classes.

Good health and physical fitness have always been important to her and after moving to Atlanta in 2014, she completed another 200 hours of Yoga Immersion & teacher training in Anusara Style Alignment Based Yoga with Gina Minyard at Yoga Collective.  She has also taught yoga for the Olli program offered by Emory University.

Melvina Edwards

Dance and Fitness instructor

Melvina has enjoyed over 25 years of experience as a dancer, choreographer and dance instructor.  She has always loved performing and creating innovative choreography, but her passion for teaching was ignited by the encouragement of a dear friend and fellow instructor.  She has taught jazz, hip-hop, Latin fusion and lyrical classes at numerous studios in Atlanta emphasizing “it is more about the feeling then dance steps…make every routine your own”.   

Her choreography credits include Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders Alumni pre-game and halftime shows since 2007, Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders, Junior Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders choreographer / director, Gotta Dance and Company Ensemble and Kool Krew, TNT On Air Creative – “A Hard Burgs Bite”, NFL Properties Super Bowl Events and United Way Charity events .  She has also been a guest choreographer for the Henderson High School Dance Team, Carol Walker Dance Studio and Onyx Dance Studio. 

In addition to her choreography experience, Melvina has enjoyed numerous performing opportunities including four years with the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders, Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Centennial Olympics in Atlanta, University of Alabama Crimson Cabaret  and Twilight  Dance Troupes, Funk Force Dancers, Gotta Dance and Company Ensemble and Kool Krew. 

Most recently, Melvina has expanded her skills to add a fitness component by obtaining an American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness Instructor certification.  

Melvina is very excited to join the Interfusion Team… Let’s dance it out!

Erica Fullington

Studio Manager

Erica discovered a love for dance later in life and is thrilled to be helping others discover and grow that love at Interfusion Fitness. By day, she’s a merchandiser for Atlanta based fashion brand, Alternative Apparel and in the evening and on weekends, she’s Interfusion’s Jack of all trades assisting with Customer Experience, Product Merchandising and more. Got questions about your account, a class or upcoming event? She’s your girl! 

James Hedges

Fitness Instructor

James, a Georgia native, entered the fitness world in college seeking to make some healthier life choices. As he spent more time being active and learning about fitness, he gradually fell in love with the routine and structure that came along with athletic training. At first his primary focus was strength/athletic training, aiming to stay functionally strong in order to enjoy sports recreationally in his spare time (and there was also a small desire to work on aesthetics as well). But following an ACL injury while playing rugby and the reconstruction surgery, James quickly learned the importance of a balanced and holistic mindset when it comes to training in order to keep the body as healthy as possible. For James, working out is a celebration of what our bodies can do and a fitness routine should always embody that mindset. James has been teaching HIIT classes in some capacity for just under two years and loves meeting up with his classes and joining them in a good workout. He is always interested in changing up a regiment to try new techniques and incorporate various fitness disciplines in his workouts and classes. Community is a foundational aspect to all people and for James fitness classes are just one of the places to build community with friends. 

James has a Master of Divinity from McAfee School of Theology and is preparing to start and Master’s of Theology program at Columbia Theological Seminary next fall. But James is even more excited for July 29th,2017 when he will be marrying his wonderful fiancé and best friend, Cora. James and Cora spend most of their free time playing with their two dogs or enjoying Atlanta’s best tacos and margaritas.

FAQs

Is there a place to change clothes? 

There is!  We have two private bathrooms where you can change clothes.

 

Is there a place to store my belongings?  

No matter which studio you are taking class in, there is a place for you to keep your belongings so they’re never out of your sight. 

 

What if I'm a beginner? 

All levels are welcome!  Most of our classes are accessible to all fitness levels.  Please ask at the front desk if you have any questions or concerns about the level of any of the classes.

 

What if I have an injury?  

If you have an injury that has been cleared by your doctor, you are welcome to come to class, we just ask that you let the teacher know before class begins.  Make sure that you monitor your body and cater the workout to your level.  Stop when you need to stop!  You will never be shamed for taking a break in any class at IF.

 

What should I bring with me?  

You will want to wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, shoes appropriate for the class you’re taking (see below), a water bottle, a towel, and a mat if you’re taking a yoga or stretch class.

 

What if I don’t have a mat? 

No worries!  We have yoga mat rentals for $1.

 

What type of shoes should I wear? 

Sneakers are recommended for most of our classes.  Bare feet are recommended for yoga; socks or ballet slippers are recommended for barre; bare feet, socks, or dance/jazz shoes are recommended for our technical dance classes.

 

Is water available? 

We do have water dispensers for you to refill your water bottle and we also sell bottled water at the front desk. 

 

What if I'm running late to class? 

We know Atlanta traffic is unpredictable so we don’t mind if you’re running a bit late.  If you’re going to be more than 10 minutes late, please understand that you might not get a complete and sufficient warm up.

 

Are there snacks available?  

We do have a variety of snacks available for purchase at the front desk.  We want you stay fueled up during your classes!

 

I'm over 40 and afraid I'll be too old to fit in.  

At Interfusion Fitness you’re never too old!  Our clients range in age from the low teens to 70+.

 

What's the parking situation like? 

We have a large parking lot with ample spaces so you never have to worry about not being able to find a parking space.

 

Help, Northeast Plaza is huge! Where can I find you?  

We are located on the north side of Northeast Plaza, a few doors to the right of H&R Block.  If you put us into Google Maps, it will bring right to our front door!

 

Are you accessible by Marta? 

We are!  Bus route #39 brings you right to the plaza, and route #47 works as well if a bit of a walk is ok.  The closest MARTA train station is Brookhaven which is about a 5 minute car ride away.
